Ruthless Hippies Present: Daniel Jackson, solo piano concert * Encinitas Library Wednesday @ Noon * January 30th

daniel jackson

Daniel Jackson has been playing music in San Diego since before the Birth of Cool. An accomplished jazz saxophonist and pianist, Daniel has played with other legends such as Clifford Brown, Max Roach, Freddie Hubbard, Willie Bobo and even Ray Charles. He has been a teacher and mentor to many of San Diego’s premier jazz performers such as Gilbert Castellanos and Joshua White. Still active in San Diego’s killer jazz scene, you can find Daniel playing regularly at Dizzy’s, Croce’s and even jamming at E-Street cafe.

In 2010, San Diego City Council honored Daniel for his tireless support of the arts by naming January 24-30 Daniel Jackson week. We here at Ruthless Hippies are BEYOND stoked to be hosting the last show in this week long celebration: Wednesday @ Noon on January 30th at the Encinitas Library (540 Cornish Drive).

This is a free show and part of the City of Encinitas’ Wednesday @ Noon concert series (click for full schedule).

For more info on Daniel, read this excellent piece on his life from San Diego Citybeat (clicky clicky).

If you’re a nine to fiver and can’t make this show, check out the full schedule for Daniel Jackson week below. The shows at Dizzy’s and Croce’s are going to be swingin’ with bands full of San Diego’s best musicians!!!
