We, the Ruthless Hippies, love record stores. We love that vinyl LP’s are more available than ever and that there are still rad brick & mortar establishments to go digging through the crates at. We want desperately for these places to stick around and enrich the culture of our neighborhoods. If you feel the same way, then get out to a record store this Saturday and purchase some music–be it a tape, CD, vinyl or 8-track. Then remember how much fun you had and get back to that record store at least once a month! Support the places you love or you’ll be stuck with itunes and another Starbucks.
Lou’s Records (434 N Coast Hwy 101) is our local shop and it’s one of the best around. Come out to Lou’s this record store day (Saturday 4/21) to see some live music from the Paragraphs (10 AM), Sweeteverafter (2 PM) and Montalban Quintet (3 PM).
If you’re closer to Carlsbad head over to Spin Records (370 Grand Ave) where Nena Anderson (noon), Oldest Boy and Girl (1PM) and the Paragraphs (2PM) will be playing. Or If you’re in Vista check out Standards Records (216 East Broadway). Spin the black circle!!!
And if you’re looking for more record oriented things to do this Saturday night, go check out the CD Release party for Leucadia singer/songwriter Cleopatra Degher’s debut record “Restrung”. It will be at the E-Street Cafe, Encinitas from 7:30-9:30PM (free show). Cleopatra is a talented folk singer and we degher very much. She notified the Ruthless Hippies blog of her event by filling out the ‘Get Ruthless’ form, and so can you.
